Make Your 4th Of July Camping Trip Easier With These Campground Tips

The thick of summer means Independence Day, and that means your family’s annual 4th of July camping trip. Such a trip is something you and your crew look forward to all year, so we want to make sure it goes off without a hitch.

Take a peek at these campground tips to make your RV campground stay pleasant, efficient, and stress-free.

Beat the Crowds

Of course, the 4th of July weekend will be busy, so you’ll want to beat the crowds. Here are a few tips on how to do just that:

  • Plan to leave as early as you can; it’s better to arrive first than last!
  • Fill up your tank and get groceries a few days before you leave
  • Reserve your campsite spot (up to a year in advance!)
  • Know where you’re going to set off fireworks

As for beating the crowds on the way out, spend time getting everything together the night before you leave, if you can. Try to leave before the masses do. That way, you won’t get caught in a long, slow line of traffic.

Create an Itinerary

A lot of RV enthusiasts like to travel where the wind takes them, but the 4th of July weekend isn’t the best time for that free-spirited attitude. Do your research and create an itinerary to stay on track while traveling.

Remember that even the most organized will deviate from the itinerary at times, and that might be due to factors out of your control. To compensate, make a plan B, or even a plan C or D!

We understand that everyone travels to the popular campgrounds for a reason, but most of the time, there are undiscovered gems nearby. To beat the overwhelming crowds, consider checking out the alternative campsites. In many cases, the popular campgrounds are only a short distance away so you can enjoy the attractions while still having a calm escape at the end of the day.

Think About Boondocking

If you decide to boondock at a dispersed campground area instead of reserving a campsite, you won’t have to worry about crowds. You’ll still be close to the action, but you’ll be off-grid and self-contained in your RV. While boondocking is free, it doesn’t offer the same perks than an RV campground does, like electricity, toilets, water, or sewage hookups, and that’s important to make note of.

Research the Arriving and Leaving Process

On especially busy holiday weekends, RV campgrounds might observe different rules surrounding arriving and leaving. To learn as much as you can about potentially securing a spot in line when it’s time to pack up and go, talk to the staff at the RV campground you plan on attending. It’s always smart to ask questions and know everything you possibly can; that way, your 4th of July weekend doesn’t hit any snags in the beginning or at the end.
