5 RV Campgrounds To Visit in Michigan

Pictured Rocks State Park is one of the great parks you can visit while camping at a Michigan RV park

Summer is the best time to find RV campgrounds to visit in Michigan, and we’re here to provide the best options in the Great Lakes State.

Visiting these parks is like stepping out of reality and into a postcard. The most difficult part of the vacation is choosing which campground you’ll head to this year.

White River RV Park and Campground

White River is perfect if you have kids because it’s not only near the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, it’s also a short drive away from the Michigan’s Adventure theme park. Around this area, you’ll also find Pere Marquette Park, the USS Silversides Submarine Museum, and Hackely and Hume Historic Site.

But White River has more to offer than just its surroundings. It also promises an air of safety that will put you at ease while you stay here with the family, and the RV sites are big enough to enjoy your own space. The service is welcoming, there are plenty of family-friend activities to keep your little ones busy, and they’ve even got heated swimming pools. If you’re looking for outdoor adventures, you’ll find hiking trails, a fishing pond, and canoe, kayak, tube, and raft rentals.

Gaylord KOA Holiday

Gaylord KOA Holiday is perfect for those that love the water, because it’s surrounded by a number of lakes – whether you’re interested in swimming or fishing, you’re going to have a good time here. There’s even a heated swimming pool if the lake is a little too cool for your taste.

There’s plenty to do around this campsite, too. You can take a day trip to Mackinaw City, check out the Thunder Bay Underwater Reserve, or take a tour through the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum.

When it comes to activities, Gaylord KOA Holiday is nowhere near lacking. They’ve got shuffleboard, Trampoline Jump Shot, a Jump Pad, mini golf, horseshoes, and a volleyball court. You can also rent 4-wheel pedal carts or banana bikes to go for a sightseeing jaunt with your crew.

If you never go anywhere without your dog, rest assured that there’s a Camp K9 Bark Park at Gaylord KOA Holiday, so your pooch will have just as much fun as the human members of the family.

Sleeping Bear Dunes

There’s almost no site more beautiful in Michigan than the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Learn about the legend of the dunes while staying at the Platte River Campground, a place that has back-in and pull-through sites for RVs that include electrical hookups.

Either take a guided tour or head out on your own to climb the dunes and reach 400 feet above Lake Michigan – just get ready for the view to take your breath away. Back at the park, get your swim on in one of the many beaches, canoe through the inland lakes, or hike the forest trails. There’s tons of wildlife to see and nature to soak in here, no matter how you choose to do it.

If you happen to run across a rainy day, the Maritime Museum is a lifesaver. The kids will have a blast participating in a rescue mission of shipwreck survivors, and watching them learn and explore will surely put a smile on your face. .

Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

The Pictured Rocks RV Park and Campground is located conveniently close to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and it is big rig friendly. Here, you won’t just enjoy amazing views, you’ll also enjoy water hookups, sewer hookups, free wifi, fire rings, and picnic tables, along with 50, 30, and 20 amp electric service.

This park offers a wide variety of things to do, whether you take it slow with boat tours, kayaking, and canoeing, or speed things up with mountain bike trails, backpacking, diving, and ATV trails. If you and your family are the nature types, you’ll get a kick out of mushrooming, and you might just find species that no one’s spotted before.

Pictured Rocks is known for the multicolored rocky cliffs that hug the shore of Lake Superior in the Upper Peninsula. You won’t find sandstone formations like this anywhere else, so take plenty of pictures of Miners Castle and Chapel Rock – these are sights you’ll want to remember.

Holland State Park

The “Big Red” lighthouse at Holland State Park is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the state, and when you get here, you’ll most definitely see why. It’s located on the south side of the Holland Channel, which is right beside one of the most beautiful and welcoming beaches that Michigan has to offer.

There are a few campgrounds at this state park, including the Beach Campground, which has 98 paved campsites and 31 full hook-up sites. The best part is that it’s just 50 short feet from the beach!

At Holland State Park, you might go on an adventure by renting a paddle boat, go for a hike or a bike trip, or simply have fun with the kids on the brand new playground. All sorts of activities are available for you and your family – that is, if you ever feel the need to leave the beach, which not many people do!
